Why does stainless steel corrode – despite the fancy name?
Unfortunately, many examples exist of mistakes in specification, application, handling or detailing of stainless steel that have led to subsequent frustrating and costly problems. This training course provides the participants a basic insight into cases where you may need to “chew on it twice” in relation to selection and application of stainless stell for a given purpose.
The course is intended for technicians, architects, engineers, contractors, and others who specify or execute components and structures in stainless steel.
CONTENT
Walk through of what stainless steel is, the different types and alloying elements as well as the most common types of corrosion in stainless steel. What to consider when selecting a stainless steel type and options to prevent corrosion in stainless steel are discussed at the course as well as precautions when welding and handling. Assembly details, bolts, contact with other metals and surface treatments are also included.

This training course is generally based on a large number of practical examples of where things have gone wrong, and guiding examples of correct use of stainless steel. Code requirements for design are briefly discussed – including selected pitfalls in the codes – but without detailed review of calculations. The primary focus is examples where problems constantly arise when using stainless steel.
The subject, stainless steel, is extremely comprehensive and this course therefore provides participants with the basic knowledge that it is absolutely crucial to possess when selecting, specifying or working with stainless steel.
